For decades American scientists have purported the brain is the accountable party responsible for
meeting the needs of our biological apparatus–our body. With the unveiling of Tetrahydrocannabinol
(THC), a new system of the body was discovered to govern our most primitive needs.
Undoubtedly, the brain is a vast network of synaptic decisions fired to keep us safe and from using too
much of our effort to get there. The discovery of the Endocannabinoid System, along with its production of ecological events that support our bodies in very significant ways, pushed the study of human
homeostasis, the constant regulations of the body’s natural system, into bloom.
What is the Endocannabinoid System (ECS)?
The Endocannabinoid System, discovered thirty years ago, is often the bastard child of the Medical
Industrial Complex. This system is not mentioned in American textbooks even though it offers
peer-reviewed, substantiated healing operations and strategies for the sickest of us and those of us
getting sicker. This is why the Endocannabinoid System is so important and can remind society that
healing should be accessible, reliant on indigenous practices: cannabis can be an open-source for
healing. The Endocannabinoid System is responsible for binding neurotransmitters, chemical
messengers, to the cannabinoid compounds, impacting all other biological systems, provoking them to
regulation.
Indigenous groups did not lack the language and research to acknowledge the cornerstone of the
agricultural industry, its myriad of benefits to the soil, and to all beings in the class of vertebrae. What the
indigenous folk lacked in a biophysical model– an opportunity to demonstrate how the cannabis plant,
with cannabinoids alike, THC, CBN, and CBD, are crucial in regulating sleep, appetite, neuro-activity, and
amygdala response–they compensated by continuing to regard the cannabis plant as a bonafide ally,
offering sufferers with a stakeholder share on the spectrum of human dysregulation, significant relief.
Different cannabinoids are being discovered, which means it is plausible that humans can have even
more autonomy over health, mind, and body with the integration of cannabis consumption into regular
rhythms, supplementing other holistic means of healing.
Balancing the Endocannabinoid System is a major Key
Human health hinges upon the idea that the brain and its mycorrhizal-like network runs the show.
Admittedly, the brain is an impressive tissue box. The Endocannabinoid System, when discovered,
allowed scientists a bird’s eye view of how holistic practices of the ancient people walking the earth,
predating our human and societal ideologies, allowed humans to take part in their own healing by their
own hand. With the Endocannabinoid System supporting sleep, mood, energy, brain function, and brain
health we have a lot to learn about it.
